I picked up the three vibration dampeners for the dash, so that is now installed on the bike correctly. I figured there wasn't much to see, so I didn't take a picture. I ended up having to remove the headlight to get to the mounting points better with the socket. Also at this time, I've gone through about 90%-95% of the wiring. To keep track of what I've checked, I used Microsoft Paint and colored the lines green for the ones that checked out "ok". While I was at it, to make things simpler, I colored the whole wiring schematic...

I finally got my parts for the exhaust, so I cleaned up the slip-ons before installing them. The Cobra pipes have "F1s" on them, and I was originally planning on taking all of the lettering off. Vicki kinda liked them and wanted to keep them on there, so I only removed the "s" off of each, since they were already partially peeled. To do a quick clean-up on them, I just hit them with some 600-grit sandpaper. Here are a couple of "Before" and "After" pictures...

After putting the exhaust on the bike, I decided to tackle the next main issue with the bike.....the carbs. I pulled the vertical one off first, as I figured it would be the worse out of the two. Here's a picture of the gunk ont he needle jet...

Further taking the carb apart, I noticed more and more of it really junked up, such as this built-up of trash in the float bowl...

The carb that was on the horizontal head was much cleaner in comparison, but that was probably due to its orientation and not allowing the gas to stay in the float bowl. Interestingly, the float bowl needle was pretty well stuck in the seat. I ordered some parts to rebuild the carbs, so hopefully, I'll have them rebuilt and on the bike correctly in the next couple of weeks or so.


Both carbs did happen to have a dimple in the slide that effects the ability to dial in the idle. I'll have to file these ramps back smooth before I put the carbs back into service.

I did have some concerns about the intake ports of the two heads, though. They looked very crudely hit with a Dremel, possibly an amature port and polish (minus the polish), but I've been told it was probably just a deburring of the casting.
