1985 Harley FXEF

This is a 1985 Harley Davidson FXEF Superglide that has a four-speed and an EVO (Evolution) engine from the factory. There were only 2324 of them made that year, and only that year with this engine/driveline combination. I bought the bike in October of 1993 with only 16,000 miles on it, much to the initial dislike of my parents. I have added some chrome, of course, and some engine mods. The engine has ported and polished heads with larger intake valves, stiffer valve springs, S&S Super "E" carb, chromoly adjustable push rods, S&S oil pump, aftermarket cam (I forget which one), and a Compufire ignition. Surprisingly, it STILL has the factory Candy Blue paint. I really enjoy this bike and riding in general. I've had some form of a motorcyle since about 1975.

Whenever I could, I used to try to go to bike rallies, such as Daytona Beach Bike Week, Myrtle Beach Bike Week, the Cherokee Survivor's Rally (in Cherokee, NC), and a few HOG (Harley Owner's Group) rallies throughout the year. In 2001, after my bike accident, I logged over 21,000 miles on two wheels, to start my quest for hitting the continental 48 states on two wheels. That was the last year I attended any rallies, as I decided I'd rather spend my money and vacation time going to new places, instead of seeing the same old thing every year. As of November of 2006, I have traveled through 44 US states and been in two Canadian Providences and into Juarez, Mexico. For information and stories of my bike trips, please check out that section of my website: My Bike Trips. With the family and emphasis on riding the sportbikes, the Harley is pretty much only used for commuting these day.

I recently hit 100,000 miles on it and put it into semi-retirement....well, kinda. The Ducati Paso was going to share duties with the Harley as my commuter, but the HD is getting 50-55 mpg and the Paso is running rich and only getting 30-34 mpg.I'll make some adjustments and put the Harley into true semi-retirement, soon.

(* - I tore the bike apart for new clutch plates, chain and sprockets, handlebar dampers, fork fluid, tranny throw-out bearing.....then 300 miles later, the stator crapped out and I had to tear it back apart to replace that)

Now for a few couple of contrasting pictures....at least where ambient temperatures are concerned...

Here's a cool shot of the Harley in Florida. This is somewhere near Flagler Beach. I remember taking this picture as I was heading back to St Augustine from Daytona during Bike Week some years ago.

On the other side of things, here is a shot of the bike in February on Hwy 64 between Cashiers and Highlands, NC. Do you like the icicles in the background?
